Japanese Prime Minister promised to resign if her party loses

In the run-up to the elections for the lower house of the Japanese parliament, which will take place on February 8, Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi made a statement during party debates, promising to resign if her Liberal Democratic Party and the "Japan Innovation Party" ("Nippon Ishin no Kai") fail to secure more than half of the seats. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

When asked about her concerns regarding the decline in government ratings after the dissolution of parliament, Takahichi replied: "I have no such feelings! Usually, at such moments, the ratings drop significantly, but our changes are not so critical. Nevertheless, if the LDP and the Japan Innovation Party do not receive more than half of the seats, I will immediately resign, as I will not be able to implement my policies. Therefore, I will try to work hard and with optimism," the Prime Minister noted on air.

According to the latest polls, Takahichi's government approval rating remains high at around 60%, although there is a decline of 4-10 percentage points depending on the source.
