The Prime Minister of Japan dissolved the lower house of parliament

The decision to dissolve the lower house was announced on January 19. The Prime Minister hopes to regain the lost positions of her Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) after the elections on October 27, 2024.

The next elections, according to the plan, were supposed to take place only in 2028. However, since October 2025, the LDP, which holds a minority in the upper house of parliament, continues to remain in power thanks to the support of its junior coalition partner, the right-wing Japan Innovation Party.
