Ukrainian hero wins the Emperor's Cup for the second time

As reported by MiddleAsianNews, young Ukrainian rikishi has put an end to Mongolian dominance in Japanese sumo.
It was previously reported that the 21-year-old "blue-eyed samurai" became the holder of the Emperor's Cup, defeating the Mongolian yokozuna and earning the title of ozeki.

Daniil Yavgushishin, the 21-year-old Ukrainian rikishi, has once again become the holder of the Emperor's Cup.

Hailing from Vinnytsia, Aonishiki triumphed at the Tokyo Sumo Palace "Kokugikan," winning twelve bouts in "regular time" at the Hatsu basho tournament and defeating the fourth west maegashira Atamifuji in the super final.

Aonishiki repeated the achievement of Futabayama, which was set 89 years ago, becoming champion in two consecutive tournaments, first as sekiwake and then as shin-ozeki.

In March, Aonishiki will enter the Haru basho as tsunatori, a contender for the yokozuna title.

Despite distractions such as numerous interviews and events, Aonishiki successfully prepared for the January tournament and demonstrated a high level of sumo, relying on his low stance.

Aonishiki was so confident in his abilities that he changed his mawashi during his winning streak. He wore a black belt, which he received from his oyakata Ajigawa during the Hatsu basho, and felt it was his duty to use it.

When asked what he wants most at the moment, Daniil Yavgushishin replied: "To share the joy with my mentor."
