The Mandatory Health Insurance Fund (MHIF) reported the payment of 409.7 million soms to pharmacies for medications dispensed under preferential prescriptions in 2025.

These payments have made it possible for thousands of insured citizens of Kyrgyzstan to receive necessary therapy, as they only pay a portion of the cost of medications.

As explained by the MHIF, the prescription of preferential medications is carried out by family doctors solely based on medical indications. Prescriptions are issued electronically, based on a directory that includes over 800 medication names.

This program is intended only for citizens who have insurance and are attached to medical institutions. Medications can only be purchased at pharmacies that cooperate with the MHIF.

Payment for medications is made partially: the patient pays their share, and the MHIF compensates up to 50% of the cost in the form of a discount.

The MHIF emphasizes that this approach makes treatment more accessible and reduces the financial burden on families, allowing patients to adhere to prescribed therapy without interruptions.

Furthermore, the fund strongly recommends that citizens regularly check their insurance status and consult family doctors for advice and the prescription of preferential medications.
