The paramedic Aiganush Usupova has significant experience working in emergency medical services, where she has been employed in Naryn for many years.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, she shared that her experience in this field spans 40 years.

Aiganush was born in 1963 in the Kochkor district. In 1984, she graduated from a medical school, and since 1985, she has not left her position in the emergency department of Naryn.

“I have worked here my whole life, I have grown up and turned gray. My profession is my love, and I try to help people with all my might,” she says.

The paramedic recalls one of the most challenging moments of her career: “Once, responding to a call in a village, I had to deliver a baby in the ambulance. The most difficult task was that the baby was coming feet first. I was very scared and felt an enormous responsibility. However, the delivery was successful, and we safely transported the mother and child to the maternity hospital. After that, I went outside and cried from the emotions.”

“On one hand, it was joy, but on the other hand, fear and anxiety. Such moments remain in memory forever. Every profession has its value, and ours is special because it requires not only skills but also responsibility,” she added.

Usupova noted that her team faces many different challenges.

“We respond to calls related to cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, and childhood illnesses. It is especially hard to see the consequences of traffic accidents. But in any situation, we try to provide the necessary assistance and transport patients to medical facilities,” she explained.

The paramedic also highlighted the problem of citizens seeking medical help too late.

“Some people prefer to self-medicate, buying medicines at pharmacies, and only turn to doctors when their condition worsens. Sometimes, parents treat their children at home for a long time without showing them to doctors,” she noted.

In addition, Usupova emphasized the importance of accurate information when calling for an ambulance.

“When calling 103, it is essential to provide the exact address, the patient's first and last name, their age, and current condition. This allows us to reach the location faster and provide assistance,” she explained.

At the end of the conversation, Aiganush offered advice to young people planning to choose a career as a paramedic.

“A paramedic is a specialist with medical education who has the right to provide first aid and make diagnoses. To become a paramedic, one must be educated, patient, compassionate, and able to relate properly to each patient. In this profession, human qualities play a key role,” she concluded.

Working in emergency medical services requires quick reactions and the ability to make difficult decisions in critical situations to save a patient's life. A paramedic must have skills in obstetric care, be able to deliver babies, dress wounds, and perform resuscitation procedures.

“Working with patients in severe conditions requires us to have patience, restraint, and compassion. It is important to accurately assess the patient's condition and timely decide whether hospitalization or a doctor’s visit is necessary,” she added.
