- During the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 11, 2026, deputy Janar Akayev noted that the problem of pasture degradation is becoming increasingly relevant.

He raised a question about the measures the government plans to take to preserve pasture resources.

The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Agriculture Bakyt Torobaev reported that there are 9 million hectares of pastures in the country, of which only 5 million are considered effective.

According to him, there are about 2 million heads of cattle and about 6 million heads of small cattle registered in Kyrgyzstan.

“Such a number of livestock creates a significant burden on pastures,” he emphasized.

Torobaev added that the budget receives only 252 million soms annually from the use of pastures, which is an extremely low figure; these funds usually remain in local budgets.

“There is a lot of information that these funds do not return to improve pastures. To change the situation, we are considering the possibility of creating a state enterprise 'Kyrgyz Zhayit', which will be engaged in uniting all pastures and regulating their use,” the minister noted.

Also, information was presented at the meeting from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry regarding preparations for spring field and economic activities in 2026 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
