In 2024, the new terminal of the airport served 1.38 million passengers, which is 36.6% higher than the same figure for the previous year. This growth more than doubles that of the next fastest-growing airport, Olbia in Italy, which saw an 18.4% increase in passenger traffic.
According to Uzbek media, the significant development of the airport was made possible by the initiative of entrepreneur Bakhtier Fazilov and his collaboration with the government under the first major public-private aviation investment program. The new terminal, opened in early 2022, has consistently demonstrated record growth since then.
The number of takeoffs and landings increased by 23%, and the route network was expanded to three domestic and 23 international destinations. New flights have been introduced to Xi'an (China), Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), Turkestan (Kazakhstan), as well as to Russian cities such as Tyumen, Nizhny Novgorod, and Irkutsk.
Additionally, it is worth noting that airports in Europe and Central Asia as a whole have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels of passenger traffic, reaching 2.5 billion passengers.
