In one of the colonies located near Astana, the production of drones has begun. In this process, the convicts themselves will participate, reports Orda.kz based on information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The project is being implemented with the support of the State Enterprise "Enbek," which is responsible for the employment of convicts. As part of the program, the hangar in the colony in the village of Arshaly has been renovated and modern machines for production have been installed. A full-fledged production process is planned.
“We intend to organize complete drone production, including the manufacturing of bodies on-site, as well as the development of boards and software,” shared Ermek Shurmanov, head of the State Enterprise "Enbek."
Convicts themselves are involved in the work, with whom official labor contracts have been concluded. They receive a salary, have a set work schedule, and the right to vacation. The earned funds go towards repaying debts and alimony, as well as for the personal needs of the convicts. There is no cash register in the colonies: all money is credited to accounts that can be used for purchases in local stores.
There are about 23,000 able-bodied convicts in the institutions of the penal system, of which more than 18,000 are already employed. In addition to drones, clothing, footwear, furniture, dishes, building materials, as well as street bins, benches, and structures for playgrounds are produced in Kazakhstani colonies. Greenhouses for growing vegetables are also in operation.
