Users are Massively Deleting ChatGPT: What is the Reason?
In the United States, there has been a sharp increase in the number of uninstalls of the ChatGPT mobile application, which rose by nearly 300% in just one day. One-star reviews of the app surged by 775%, while the number of downloads decreased. Users are switching to an alternative — the Claude app from Anthropic.
The reaction of users in the U.S. to OpenAI's deal with the Pentagon manifested in mass uninstalls of ChatGPT. According to the Sensor Tower platform, the number of uninstalls increased by 295% in one day, while the usual monthly rate remained at 9%.
At the same time, interest in the Claude app from Anthropic has noticeably increased. A day after OpenAI announced the deal, downloads of Claude rose by 37%, and another day later — by 51%. Within a week, the app climbed more than 20 positions in the App Store, reaching the top spot among free apps.
Anthropic reported that it could not come to an agreement with the Pentagon regarding the terms of the deal, expressing concerns that their technologies could be used for surveillance of U.S. citizens or for creating autonomous weapons. Apparently, many users supported this viewpoint.
In contrast, downloads of ChatGPT began to decline. The day after the announcement of the partnership with the military, the number of installations fell by 13%, and another day later — by 5%. Prior to this, downloads had been increasing by 14%.
There is also a noticeable rise in negative reactions on social media. On Saturday, the number of one-star reviews for ChatGPT increased by 775%, and on Sunday — by 100%. Meanwhile, the number of five-star reviews during the same period halved.
