On January 16, 2026, the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, announced at a joint off-site meeting of the parliamentary groups "Mekenchil" and "Ata-Jurt" that only 54 out of the 105 residential areas in the capital and its suburbs have been gasified, which is about half of the total number.

“We are also interested in speeding up the gasification process in populated areas. It would be great if Gazprom increased the pace of its work,” the mayor noted.

He emphasized that priority attention should be given to the villages of Novopavlovka and Novopokrovka, where heating is provided using various types of fuel, which negatively affects air quality in Bishkek.

In addition, the mayor pointed out that two residential areas are located directly at the entrance to the capital—one from the west and the other from the east.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the problem of smog in Bishkek, as well as ways to address it and measures aimed at improving air quality.
