The Museum of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is in critical condition, as the last renovation work has not been carried out for 20 years. This was reported on March 4 by deputy Seyidbek Atambaev at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Atambaev noted that the display cases in the museum are morally outdated and may pose a health risk to both children and other visitors. He emphasized that this institution houses unique exhibits that require controlled temperature and humidity conditions. The deputy added that a new building is necessary for their proper storage.

Furthermore, in 2014, specialists from the Zoological Museum of Lomonosov Moscow State University had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the NAS collection, which features type series of some new species of reptiles found in the territory of Kyrgyzstan.

Atambaev also reported that employees of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences express concern about the preservation of wet preparations of amphibians and reptiles. "These collections are of great importance for studying the biological diversity of Central Asia. Preserving alcohol collections requires significant financial resources, but it is extremely important for the conservation of biological resources in our region," he added.
