The Ministry of Education clarified why the spring break for school students is limited to just one working day—Friday.

This academic year, spring break is scheduled from March 6 to March 8, which amounts to three calendar days, including weekends.

According to regulations, students in general education institutions are entitled to 30 calendar days of vacation during the academic year.

In previous years, the academic process included three vacation periods: autumn—about 9 days, winter—12 days, and spring—9 days, not including official holidays.

As of January 1, 2026, a new Labor Code, adopted on June 4, 2025, under number 111, came into effect, which defines two long holiday periods in January (from the 1st to the 6th) and May (from the 1st to the 8th).

Additionally, the Labor Code establishes that January 7, May 5, and May 9 are also non-working holidays. If January 10-11 or May 10-11 coincide with weekends, then the winter break and May holidays can last up to 12 days.

These regulations also apply to school education, which implies that students of general education schools, in addition to the three standard breaks (autumn, winter, and spring), should be exempt from classes during the May holidays from May 1 to May 10.

Thus, out of the 30 vacation days, 24 days fall on the winter break in January and the holiday days in May.

The remaining 6 days should be distributed between the autumn (in November) and spring (in March) breaks, which requires careful consideration when creating the academic schedule.

In the current academic year 2025-2026, autumn break is scheduled from November 5 to November 9 (5 calendar days including weekends) and spring break from March 6 to March 8 (3 calendar days including weekends).
