Edil Baisalov, who holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, commented on the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Kyrgyz banks, related to their alleged connections with Russia, in an interview published on the Euronews website.

According to Baisalov, Kyrgyzstan actively supports dialogue with the EU as well as with individual European states. "We are certainly concerned about the misunderstanding, as the Russian Federation is our main trading partner. We have hundreds of thousands of labor migrants, and that means that remittances will continue," he noted.

During his visit to Brussels, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed creating a notification mechanism for European companies regarding dual-use goods purchased by Kyrgyz firms. However, he stated that the European side showed no interest in this initiative.

“We are certainly disheartened by some of these sanctions,” he added.

Baisalov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is determined to continue cooperation with the EU and explain its position, while focusing on pragmatic goals of national development and internal affairs of the country.
