At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Gulnara Baatyrova raised an important issue regarding the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in Kyrgyzstan.

She reported that approximately 6,000 new cases of oncology are recorded annually in the country, and 35,000 patients are under dispensary observation.

“Cancer ranks second among the causes of mortality. Notably, 40% of cases are diagnosed only at stages 3 and 4, indicating late diagnosis. Furthermore, 55% of those affected are of working age — between 35 and 64 years,” the deputy emphasized.

Baatyrova also noted that according to international standards, 20 linear accelerators are required to serve a population of 7 million, while Kyrgyzstan has only 3 devices, which quickly become inoperable.

Additionally, the parliamentarian pointed out the lack of modern diagnostic capabilities for molecular genetic and immunohistochemical studies. Necessary tests are sent abroad, which slows down the diagnostic process.

Gulnara Baatyrova added that there is a shortage of about 80 essential medications in the country, as well as issues with providing palliative care, particularly a lack of narcotic analgesics.
