Bakyt Torobaev reported that farmers will receive water through electronic meters.
At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agricultural Policy, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Bakyt Torobaev, reported a significant reduction in the volume of water in Kyrgyzstan's reservoirs this year.
Currently, approximately 884 million cubic meters of water are recorded in 498 reservoirs across the country, which is 30-35% less than last year. The total designed capacity of all reservoirs is 1 billion 757 million cubic meters.
According to the minister, by 2026, it is planned to cultivate 1 million 250 thousand hectares of arable land, of which 885 thousand hectares will be irrigated. To supply these fields with water (an average of 4-5 irrigations), about 6.3 billion cubic meters of water will be required.
This year, 12.3 billion soms have been allocated for the development of the irrigation system. These funds will be directed towards:
- repairing and cleaning 776 km of canals;
- laying 657 thousand square meters of concrete cover;
- restoring 590 hydraulic structures;
- repairing 508 water measurement posts, 91 pumping stations, and 170 pumping units;
- updating 46 pumping units;
- installing about 1,500 electronic water meters;
- bringing 225 collector-drainage systems into order.
Bakyt Torobaev noted that the transition to electronic accounting of water supply for farmers will allow for more effective control over resource distribution and reduce water losses.
