In the Naryn region, in the At-Bashy district, 43-year-old Zhazgul Kozhomgeldieva and her husband have been engaged in the sale of rock salt and animal feed for many years.

In this area, where livestock farming is the key activity, there is a constant high demand for these products throughout the year.

As Kozhomgeldieva explained, At-Bashy is considered a "livestock" region, and therefore the need for rock salt does not decrease in summer or winter. "Currently, the prices for feed remain stable. A kilogram of wheat and barley costs 28 soms. We mainly purchase feed from the Chui region — Tokmok and Kemin, as well as from the Issyk-Kul region, and sell it at the same price. Ground bran costs 29 soms per kilogram," she noted.

Kozhomgeldieva also pointed out that a kilogram of rock salt is sold for 16 soms, and the salt comes from the Toktogul district. Usually, rock salt supplies are made in advance — in winter, and it is used throughout the year. "We try to stock up on salt in winter. Livestock owners often buy it in large batches during this season. Sometimes we even deliver it to the summer pastures. Rock salt is the most important 'vitamin' for our animals. Without it, they weaken and start to get sick," she added.

According to her, salt is extremely important for the health of livestock: it helps animals gain weight and be better fattened. In the absence of salt, livestock loses weight, has nasal discharge, and becomes lethargic. "At-Bashy is a livestock district, and a lot of salt is consumed. It can be confidently said that without salt, livestock will not be complete. Therefore, animals should have salt both in summer and in winter," concluded Zhazgul Kozhomgeldieva.
