Road repairs and reconstruction continue in Bishkek

In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, work on the repair and reconstruction of urban streets, which began last year, is ongoing. Abdijaparkul Janbolotov, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of the city administration, reported this on the air of Birinchi radio.

According to him, the achievements in the construction and reconstruction of roads, as well as bridges, have been positively assessed. By 2025, the plan will be fulfilled: the length of reconstructed and newly built roads will reach 92 kilometers. However, some streets will only be completed in 2026.

Janbolotov also added that significant repairs began last year on Den Xiaoping Street, which were completed by spring. Due to the start of the school year and the return of workers from vacation, the southern side of the street has been postponed until 2026, while work will continue this year.

He emphasized that Leo Tolstoy Street is also under construction: the section from Ibraimov Street to Termechikov Street has already been completed, with only a small section remaining from Termechikov to Timur Frunze, which will be finished this year.

Among the projects that need to be completed, Janbolotov mentioned the extension of Bakayev Street from Leo Tolstoy to Bokonbaev Street. He noted that people on social media say that work has been ongoing here for four years, but actual work only began in November 2024.

“The repair was almost completed last year, but there were issues with relocating two gas lines. All other engineering networks were moved, but there were difficulties with gas. Gazprom was supposed to develop a project and coordinate it with Moscow, which delayed the timelines. This year, we have already completed the gas relocation and can continue the asphalting work,” explained Janbolotov.

Additionally, he noted that there is a problem with drainage, which is why a new sewer system is being constructed that, according to the project, should connect to the Ala-Archa River. Janbolotov added that there are several difficulties with clearing the area, as some plots were transferred to the ownership of the Red Book in 2022. This issue is currently being worked on, as the extension of the street must continue. Although many believe that this section is pointless, it will be extended from Bokonbaev Street to Beshkekaliyev Street, creating a unified street. This year, the extension will also continue with the construction of a bridge over Ala-Archa and access to Beshkekaliyev Street.

According to Janbolotov, in addition to the three mentioned streets, there is one more. Last year, Kalinin Street was completed in the Sverdlovsk district, and a bridge was built over Auezov. The remaining section of Auezov from Jibek-Jolu to Saliev Street will continue this year, as this work has been classified as ongoing and included in the current list of projects.
