In addition to the sword, a leather belt with a national ornament was sold at the auction for 524 thousand 261 tenge, with a starting price of 183 thousand 750 tenge.

Previously, attempts to sell the samurai sword were unsuccessful, and the results of the auction were canceled. Subsequently, the item was re-listed for sale.

Karim Massimov was detained in January 2022 on charges of treason. In April 2023, the court sentenced him to 18 years in prison with confiscation of property. He was later charged with money laundering and receiving a large bribe.

During a search of Massimov's mansion in Astana, impressive collections of weapons, antiques, expensive watches, paintings, gold bars, and significant amounts of cash were found. The house, which covers almost 2,900 square meters, included a swimming pool, sauna, karaoke, and even its own stage. Millions of dollars in cash and 11 business-class cars were also discovered. The value of the mansion and the land exceeded 1.5 billion tenge.
