For the first time in the last 15 years, the Gulf of Finland has been completely covered with ice. This was reported by Alexander Kolesov, head of the Hydrometeorological Center of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

According to Kolesov, the recent days of stable cold weather contributed to the freezing of the entire water area of the gulf. He noted that for 2-3 days, young ice was observed in the throat of the gulf, which turned out to be thin and transparent, making it difficult to capture in satellite images.

The last time such coverage was observed was in 2010 and 2011.

In addition, a snowfall was recorded in Moscow, which became the most significant since 1970.
