Muslims around the world eagerly await Kadir Night — the Night of Decree, which occurs in the month of Ramadan.
Regarding how this night is celebrated, 24.kg shared insights from Abibilla Azhy Kadyberdiev, a representative of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan.
Spiritual significance of the evening
Kadir Night has a sacred mention in the Quran. In the Surah "Al-Qadr," it is emphasized that this night is "better than a thousand months." According to Islamic tradition, it was on one of these nights that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
The phrase "better than a thousand months" means that the worship performed on this night with sincerity surpasses in reward the worship performed over many years.
When is Kadir Night celebrated?
The exact date of Kadir Night is usually unknown until the beginning of Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad recommended seeking this evening among the last ten nights of the holy month, especially on odd-numbered nights. Therefore, believers strive to pay more attention to these nights, dedicating them to prayer and repentance.
Many Muslims traditionally intensify their prayers on the night from the 26th to the 27th day of the Ramadan calendar, believing that it may coincide with Kadir Night.
This year, Kadir Night will be celebrated from March 16 to March 17.
How to spend the sacred night?
It is recommended to spend this evening in worship, avoiding quarrels, idle talk, and worldly distractions. It is important:
- to perform additional prayers;
- to read the Quran;
- to engage in dhikr;
- to sincerely address Allah with dua;
- to reflect on one’s life and strive for improvement.
Everyone can choose where to spend this night — at home or in the mosque. The main thing is not to turn it into a secular celebration, as this is inappropriate.
What should be avoided during Kadir Night?
According to the recommendations of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims, on this night it is advisable to avoid:
- conflicts and foul language;
- gossip;
- visiting entertainment venues;
- consuming alcoholic beverages;
- watching entertainment content.
Instead, it is better to focus on repentance and prayers, whether at home or in the mosque.
Kadir Night is a unique opportunity for every believer to ask for forgiveness, cleanse their heart, and begin a new stage of life with a sincere intention to do good.
