The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has reached an agreement with former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, under which he will serve five years in prison and pay a fine of 1 million lari, as reported by DW.

According to the charges, Garibashvili could have received between 9 to 12 years in prison. During a search of his home, funds amounting to 6.5 million dollars were seized.

At the end of October, the prosecutor's office officially charged him with legalizing large illegal income. The investigation claims that from 2019 to 2024, when Garibashvili held the position of Minister of Defense and then Prime Minister, he conducted business while declaring the income received as gifts from his relatives. He also registered property in the names of his family members.

Irakli Garibashvili is a member of the ruling party "Georgian Dream," which he has supported since its founding in 2011. For some time, he also held the position of party chairman.
