Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed his opinion on the need to abandon strict dress codes in schools and government agencies during a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh. He noted that the current rules for wearing uniforms generate numerous complaints, especially from the regions.

According to Bekeshev, students are required to wear uniforms, but this creates many inconveniences. “In summer, it’s hot in such clothing, and in winter, it’s uncomfortable. In the context of urban traffic jams, moving in uniform is also difficult. We are creating unnecessary difficulties for children. For example, in China, students are allowed to wear sports suits, which is much more convenient,” he added.

The deputy clarified that he is not advocating for the complete abolition of school uniforms to avoid students appearing in untidy clothing. Instead, he suggests that the government revise the dress code, allowing children to wear more comfortable items, such as sweaters, t-shirts, and casual-style jeans.

Additionally, he pointed out the need to soften the dress code requirements in parliament and other government institutions. “The requirement to wear jackets and ties has remained since Soviet times. Strict rules also apply to visitors to parliament, which is not always justified. It is important to evaluate a person based on their knowledge, not their appearance. I urge the Cabinet to conduct a survey among students and change the existing norms,” Bekeshev concluded.

Interestingly, the deputy himself spoke from the podium without a jacket, in a shirt and vest, which emphasized his position.
