In the northern part of Kyrgyzstan, there is a sharp decline in birth rates. This statement was made by Nurgul Ibraeva, head of the medical assistance organization and pharmaceutical policy department, at a joint meeting of parliamentary groups.

This statement was a response to the question from MP Jumabek Salymbekov about the current situation regarding birth rates in the country.

According to Nurgul Ibraeva, last year approximately 137,982 newborns were registered in the republic, which is 2,000 fewer compared to 2024. Previously, the average number of births per year was up to 150,000.

She noted that every year there is a recorded decrease in the number of births, which is related to a number of social factors. Among the reasons are changes in the worldview of families and women, who believe it is necessary to achieve stability first before having children.

However, if we look at the statistics by regions, it can be noted that in the south of the country, the number of births has not decreased, while in the north there is a sharp reduction, she added.

As for infant mortality, according to Ibraeva, the country has recorded a 36 percent decrease compared to previous years.
