The protocol on changing the operating regime of the border crossing points between the governments of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, signed on December 25, 2003, has been ratified by the deputies of the Mazhilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As reported by Tengrinews, Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev noted that the changes pertain to the operation of the automobile border crossing "Kegen - Karkara." It will now operate around the clock.

The minister also emphasized that this decision will help increase capacity, improve conditions for passengers, and contribute to the development of the tourism industry. In 2025, 11 million people and 3 million vehicles crossed the border.

Additional InformationThere are 11 automobile border crossing points operating between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, of which seven are multilateral international points. Four bilateral points — Alatau, Besagash, Jaiyl, and Kamyshanovka — were closed in 2010. The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan is confident that the proposed changes will contribute to the further development of transport and transit connections between the two countries.
