The Bishkek City Court of Appeals reviewed the case of journalist Kanyshay Mamyrkulova and changed the previous decision. This was reported by human rights activist Gulshaiyr Abdirasulova on her Facebook page.

As a result of the new court ruling, Kanyshay Mamyrkulova was acquitted under Article 330 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which concerns inciting interregional hostility, but was found guilty under Article 278, Part 3 for calls to mass riots. Thus, the probation period was reduced to three years.

The journalist was detained on March 20, 2025. According to law enforcement agencies, she allegedly spread false information about the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, which could have led to destabilization in the country. The Main Department of Internal Affairs reported that a forensic linguistic examination confirmed the presence of calls for violence, which became the basis for initiating a criminal case.

In July 2025, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Bishkek sentenced Mamyrkulova to six years in prison, establishing probation supervision for four years. During this time, she was prohibited from leaving her home from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM and from posting messages on social media. Meanwhile, the prosecution requested an eight-year prison sentence.
