Crime in Kyrgyzstan has increased by 4.3 percent since the beginning of 2026

According to the National Statistical Committee, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic reported a 4.3 percent increase in crime at the beginning of 2026.

From January to February, law enforcement agencies registered 6,100 crimes, which is 4.3 percent higher than the same period in 2025.

At the same time, there was a decrease in the number of serious and particularly serious crimes by 4.3 percent, amounting to 784 cases. The largest number of offenses is related to property crimes, which account for 72 percent of the total.

Among property crimes, there was a sharp increase in cases of fraud, which rose 1.6 times, reaching 2,345 incidents.

At the same time, there was a decrease in the number of thefts by 30.8 percent, robberies by 1.9 times, extortions by 22.5 percent, and burglaries by 16.4 percent.


Increase in Violence and Crimes Against Individuals


According to the report from the National Statistical Committee, the situation regarding citizens' safety has worsened: the number of crimes against individuals increased by 22.8 percent. The Prosecutor's Office particularly noted the rise in cases of rape, which increased 1.4 times (35 cases registered).

The number of murders (26 cases) decreased by 7.1 percent, while the number of cases of causing less serious harm to health decreased by 9 percent, totaling 61.

As a result of criminal actions, 2,085 women were harmed, mainly from fraud, and 238 children. Thirteen minors died as a result of criminal actions, and another 55 were injured. The highest number of crimes against children occurred in Bishkek (28.6 percent) and the Jalal-Abad region (15.1 percent).

Increase in Corruption Amid Decrease in Drug Trafficking



In the area of official crimes, there was an abnormal increase in corruption: the number of identified cases increased 3.25 times (from 24 to 78 cases). At the same time, cases of bribery decreased by more than half—by 50.7 percent. The total number of economic crimes decreased by 23.5 percent, which is related to a 61.1 percent reduction in tax evasion cases.

The illegal drug trade also decreased by 9.4 percent. Almost half of such crimes (48 percent) are related to the possession of prohibited substances.

In total, about 3,000 offenders were identified over two months. Of these, 66.5 percent were unemployed and uneducated, and the proportion of women among those detained was 13.4 percent.

Batken and Issyk-Kul — Regions with the Highest Crime Growth



Regional statistics show a sharp increase in crime in the Batken region (by 77.7 percent), Issyk-Kul (by 49.3 percent), and Osh (by 38.3 percent).

In Bishkek, there is a reverse trend: the crime rate decreased by 14.7 percent. In public places across the country, 757 crimes occurred, most of which were thefts and hooliganism.
