Mongolia ranks among the lowest in the Global Organized Crime Index 2025

According to MiddleAsianNews, Mongolia's crime index in 2025 was 52.1 points, indicating a moderate level of criminal activity. This figure has been decreasing for three consecutive years, making the country relatively safe for travelers, although standard precautions are still recommended.

In the global ranking, Mongolia is in 153rd place, behind countries such as Denmark (148th), Latvia (149th), Lithuania (149th), and Australia (152nd).

Russia, Mongolia's northern neighbor, ranks 22nd in the world for high crime levels, remaining in a group of countries with significant organized crime influence. The index of criminal markets in Russia is high and includes crimes such as human trafficking, drug trafficking, and cybercrime, as well as a weak governmental response to these threats.

To the south of Mongolia lies China, which ranked 45th in the world in 2025 with a crime index of 24.0, which decreased to 23.1 by early 2026. This result indicates a continuation of a seven-year trend of declining crime rates. Despite the overall rise in organized crime worldwide, China demonstrates stable indicators and a low level of street crime.

In 2025, the Global Organized Crime Index (GOCI) recorded an increase in financial and cyber crimes, as well as smuggling and synthetic drugs.

The crime index in Mongolia for 2026 is 50.3 points, which is lower than the 2025 figure of 52.1. This decline has been ongoing for three years, as indicated by data from osindex.net. Since 2013, the crime index in Mongolia has increased by 1.07 times.

Key Statistics (2025-2026 period):

The crime index is divided into categories: very low (below 20), low (20-40), moderate (40-60), high (60-80), and very high (above 80).
