A ferry with 350 passengers sank off the coast of the Philippines, 15 dead reported

The cargo-passenger ferry M/V Trisha Kerstin 3, which was heading from the city of Zamboanga to the island of Holo, sank on Monday night off the coast of the Philippines. According to preliminary data, technical malfunctions of the vessel may have caused the tragedy, as reported by the Interfax agency.

There were more than 350 people on board. Rescue operations managed to retrieve at least 316 passengers; however, unfortunately, 15 people have been declared dead. More than 100 passengers are still reported missing, according to local authorities.

Coast Guard Commander Romel Dua stated that the exact cause of the incident is still unknown, and an investigation is currently underway.

He also added that the ferry underwent inspection before departure, and no signs of overloading were recorded.
