31-year-old Kubanych Barat uulu from the village of Ming-Chynar in the Kadamjai district of the Batken region has been growing strawberries for four years and earning a living from it.

Although this type of farming is rare in the region, he has established year-round cultivation—both in winter and summer.

“In 2022, I underwent special training, and in 2023, I built a greenhouse—I got the idea from neighboring Uzbekistan. There, we purchased the necessary materials and gained knowledge. Initially, we grew the Korean variety 'sohen,' which yielded a good harvest. Now we have changed the variety: we brought 'kabirello' seedlings from Osh, and this variety is currently ripening. The greenhouse is heated; we warm it using underfloor heating. We use coal for heating. Daily expenses amount to about 300 kilograms of fuel. I constantly participate in seminars and continue to learn,” said Kubanych.

He noted that he used to sell his harvest in Osh, but now he sells it in stores in Batken. Currently, strawberries are sold for 1500 soms per kilogram and above. Usually, in winter, the price rises to 2000 soms, and by April, it drops to 700–800 soms.

“The greenhouse is equipped with a drip irrigation system. The area of the greenhouse is 10 acres. Additionally, we have planted strawberries on another 90 and 15 acres—there, the harvest will start ripening in April,” said Barat uulu.

He added that from a 10-acre greenhouse, one can obtain more than 500 kilograms of harvest, and from 1 hectare—up to 25 tons.
