The US shot down an Iranian drone that approached the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln

This photo, published in August 2024, shows the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean.
According to American military sources, at the time of the incident, the aircraft carrier was approximately 800 kilometers from the southern coast of Iran when an Iranian drone began to approach the ship for no apparent reason. An F-35 fighter jet, as specified by a Reuters source, carried out the drone's downing.

Additionally, six Iranian military boats attempted to stop the American oil tanker Stena Imperative in the Strait of Hormuz, demanding that it shut down its engines and be prepared for towing. This was reported by the British maritime security company Vanguard Tech, citing AFP. The Iranian agency Fars claims that the tanker violated Iran's territorial waters, and the republic requested the necessary permits from it.

The US and Iran are set to hold negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program, scheduled for February 6. However, the Iranian side insists on moving the meeting from Istanbul to Oman, Axios reports.

Recently, there has been discussion in the US about the possibility of military action against Iran. However, on January 31, President Donald Trump stated that the Iranian side is engaged in "serious negotiations" with the US, and he will make a decision on further actions depending on the outcomes.
