According to the police, about 170 people were injured as a result of this incident. At the time of writing, no one has claimed responsibility for what happened.
The explosion occurred during prayer when a suicide bomber approached the temple. Law enforcement officials noted that the man was stopped at the entrance, but eyewitnesses claim that he opened fire on the guards and then detonated the explosive device inside the mosque.
Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and many of the injured are in critical condition. A state of emergency has been declared in one of the hospitals in Islamabad, local publication Dawn reports.
