In Italy, three skiers died as a result of avalanches while skiing off-piste in the area of the Winter Olympics.

In the Marmolada area, located in the Dolomites and near Cortina d'Ampezzo, where the women's alpine skiing competitions are taking place, two avalanches occurred.

According to information from the alpine rescue service, one of the bodies found belonged to a man who was skiing with three other skiers on the slopes of Punta Rocca, which has an elevation of 3300 meters. This location is on the highest mountain in the Dolomites.

In Albosaggia, a village in the lower part of Valtellina, two more skiers died who were off-piste, approximately 65 km east of Bormio, where the men's alpine skiing competitions are being held.
