The head of the British Prime Minister's administration has resigned due to connections with the Epstein case

The case is related to the leak of confidential information

Morgan McSweeney, who headed the administration of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, announced his resignation.

The reason for this was a scandal involving Peter Mandelson, as reported by both The Guardian and Sky News.

This event occurred against the backdrop of the publication of new documents from the U.S. Department of Justice concerning the case of American financier Jeffrey Epstein. These materials mention Mandelson's name, and according to Sky News, it relates to a potential transfer of confidential data to Epstein during his time in the British government, as reported by TRT in Russian.

McSweeney noted that he was the one who suggested to Keir Starmer to appoint Mandelson as ambassador to the U.S., adding that he considers this decision to be incorrect.

“The appointment of Peter Mandelson was a mistake. It harmed our party, our country, and undermined trust in politics,” McSweeney commented.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed gratitude for working with McSweeney but did not comment on the scandal itself. According to Sky News, within the Labour Party, opinions about McSweeney were mixed, and some MPs believed he was sidelining the party's left wing.

Peter Mandelson was removed from his position as the UK ambassador to the U.S. in September and soon left the Labour Party. The Guardian reported that this happened due to information from the so-called “Epstein files,” which indicated that he may have received $75,000 from the financier.

It is worth noting that Jeffrey Epstein served time for organizing prostitution in 2008-2009. In July 2019, he was arrested on charges of coercing minors into sexual exploitation.

Unfortunately, in August of the same year, Epstein was found dead in his jail cell in Manhattan. In December 2025, the first part of the documents related to his case was released.

Previously published materials had already indicated Epstein's connections with prominent figures, including British Prince Andrew, who subsequently lost his royal title.
