According to the television channel, Beijing is not only modernizing its nuclear arsenal but is also believed to have possibly violated the international moratorium on nuclear testing established in 1996 by conducting a covert test in June 2020.
Analyzing the situation, experts note that China's investments in nuclear technologies are aimed at achieving strategic parity with Russia and the USA. They believe this could provide the PRC with technical capabilities that are currently absent in other leading nuclear powers.
According to CNN, among the new areas of development are missiles with multiple miniature warheads, an expansion of the nuclear arsenal, and the creation of low-yield tactical nuclear weapons that have not previously been produced in the country.
Sources from the television channel indicate that this new weapon may be intended for use against targets closer to China, including scenarios in which Beijing might respond to US support for Taiwan.
