During the Smart Control exercises, which took place from February 16 to 18, the naval forces of Iran showcased the Sayyad-3G missile for the first time. The missile launch was recorded on video and occurred from the ship Shahid Sayyad Shirazi, as reported by the Anadolu Agency.

This missile, which is the naval version of the ground-based air defense system Sayyad-3, has the capability to hit targets at a distance of up to 150 kilometers and uses a vertical launch system.

Tehran claims that the new system will create a regional air defense "zone" for military vessels of the Shahid Soleimani class.

The ground version of the Sayyad-3 missile was initially tested in 2016, with a range of 120 kilometers, a length of six meters, and a weight of about 900 kilograms.

The commander of the IRGC Navy, Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, previously stated Iran's readiness to close the Strait of Hormuz if such a decision is made by the country's leadership. He also noted that the weapons used in real combat may differ significantly from those demonstrated during the exercises.

The Smart Control exercises were conducted against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Iran and the United States, adding tension to the region. U.S. President Donald Trump had previously issued an ultimatum to Iran, giving them 10-15 days to reach an agreement on the nuclear program, threatening "tough measures" in case of refusal.
