Lars Klingbeil, the Vice Chancellor of Germany, commented on the new tariffs that the U.S. plans to impose against several European countries. He emphasized that Europeans will not allow themselves to be "blackmailed or provoked," as reported by Tagesspiegel.

Klingbeil noted that "this is quite clear," adding that Trump has chosen the wrong path. "We will not allow ourselves to be provoked by either words or tariffs," he stated.

The Vice Chancellor also pointed out the need to provide the U.S. with "a unified and clear response" from European countries, adding that in Europe's view, the White House has "crossed a line" regarding territorial integrity, and Europeans cannot agree to a potential loss of the island.

"It is important for the U.S. to understand: we do not agree with this. A line has been crossed," he emphasized, while noting that dialogue with Washington is possible.

Recall that on January 17, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland, with a possible increase of this rate to 25% until an agreement is reached on the purchase of Greenland.

In response to this announcement, eight NATO countries issued a joint statement expressing full support for Denmark and its autonomous territory of Greenland, reaffirming principles of sovereignty and warning against "dangerous negative dynamics."

Additionally, European Union leaders also condemned the U.S. threats. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa noted that "Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to protecting its sovereignty."

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed the need to include this island in the United States. In response, the authorities of Denmark and Greenland warned Washington against attempts to seize their territory, demanding respect for their sovereignty.
