Powerful rains and gusty winds have hit the southern regions of Italy, including Sicily, Sardinia, and Calabria. This has led to a sharp increase in water levels in rivers and, consequently, to flooding and local inundations, according to information from the Italian Department of Civil Protection.

Rescue services are working around the clock, and over the past 24 hours, firefighters have carried out hundreds of operations to rescue people and animals. More than 1,200 rescuers and over 400 units of equipment are involved in the most affected areas.

On the island of Lipari, the storm has caused streets and coastal areas to flood. A red alert has been issued in Calabria, Sicily, and Sardinia due to the threat of flooding and landslides.

Civil protection services report that weather conditions remain unfavorable. Residents are strongly urged to avoid dangerous areas, not to cross flooded roads, and to follow the instructions of emergency services.
