
According to Dan, the possibility of unification can only arise if the majority of Moldovan citizens express a desire for it. When asked about Bucharest's readiness to consider such a prospect, he replied: "We are ready to discuss this only when the majority of the Republic of Moldova wants it. At the moment, we are not ready."
According to an August survey, 61.5% of Moldovans are against unification with Romania, while 31% support the idea. Additionally, 60% of respondents opposed Moldova's accession to NATO, while Romania is a member of this military alliance.
Previous statements by Moldovan President Maia Sandu indicated that she supports the idea of a referendum on possible unification with Romania; however, she acknowledged that the majority of the country's citizens do not want to lose their sovereignty.
