Deputy Dastan Bekeshev at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with finance, budget, entrepreneurship, and competition development, stated that the import of medications into Kyrgyzstan has become significantly more complicated. As a result, many citizens turn to relatives with requests to bring necessary medicines from abroad, particularly from Turkey and Russia.

He noted that although the EAEU aims to simplify trade relations between countries, frequent changes in tariffs negatively affect the import of medicines. People suffering from rare and oncological diseases find themselves in a difficult situation due to the new regulations.

“If the purchase amount exceeds 200 euros, customs services begin to hold up packages and require their clearance. Previously, this threshold was 500 euros, but it has been reduced to 200. How can we solve this problem?” Bekeshev pointed out.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Sultan Akhmatov responded that the tariff rates depend on the internal needs of each republic. “When certain needs arise, we can request quotas for necessary goods,” he added, emphasizing that he would consider the issue raised by the deputy.

Bekeshev also emphasized that people who need expensive medications are suffering due to the existing EAEU rules. “We are essentially fighting not against smuggling, but against needy people,” he concluded.

Akhmatov agreed with the deputy's opinion and explained that the 200 euro threshold was introduced mainly because medications are often purchased online.
