Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev informed that the republic fully provides itself with six out of nine socially significant products, while for the other three, it only meets 50% of the needs.
According to him, Kyrgyzstan can fully satisfy the needs for the following products:
- potatoes,
- milk,
- sugar,
- eggs,
- meat.
The deputy also raised the issue of the state of grain crops, inquiring why the republic cannot fully provide itself with them, given the available land resources and seeds.
In response, Kerimaliev explained that the production volume is insufficient: out of 1.2 million hectares of arable land for grains, approximately 600 thousand hectares are used. He noted that hard varieties do not always meet the necessary standards, but the renewal of grain varieties is already in progress.
During the discussion, Abdibaeva also pointed out that, according to her observations, the population has increasingly begun to choose sourdough bread, while the flour used in production is often imported from Russia. She expressed concern about the unknown composition of this imported flour and added that the flour coming from Kazakhstan also raises questions regarding its quality.
