Bishkek's grocery basket as of January 10. What has increased the most in price
In the first two weeks of 2026, Bishkek has seen a rise in prices for goods such as cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, bananas, apples, and sugar. At the same time, potatoes, carrots, onions, and pears have become cheaper.

Thus, the cost of the basic grocery set has increased by 540 soms, totaling 6,723 soms.

We regularly visit the same supermarket to track prices for a fixed set of products. Below is detailed information about the items we included in our basket and the reasons for their selection.
It should be noted that prices may vary between supermarkets and markets. Promotions on certain products are often available in stores.
According to our data, since the start of price monitoring in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,453 soms, and compared to the same period last year, it has risen by 656 soms.
Bread remains the most affordable product in our basket. The greatest impact on the cost of the set comes from fresh vegetables and fruits, which are the main factors in price fluctuations.

In 2025, the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest price was recorded on October 18 at 5,791 soms, while the highest price was on December 6 at 6,927 soms.

The nutritional standards for citizens of Kyrgyzstan were established by the government back in 2009. According to these guidelines, each person should consume 9 types of food monthly.

The approved list includes: 9 kilograms of bakery products, 5 kilograms of meat, 8.2 kilograms of potatoes, 9 kilograms of vegetables, 10 kilograms of fruits and berries, 2 kilograms of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Based on the minimum standards set by the state, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, using prices from one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. Recently, many city residents prefer to shop at large retail outlets.

Of course, our calculations are approximate and based solely on government standards. It is important to remember that taste preferences and consumption can vary significantly: some people do not eat meat, while others may do without sugar. Therefore, our basket cannot be considered the ultimate truth; it is more of a social experiment by 24.kg.

We include both bread and pasta and cereals in our bakery products category. Our family represents an average household, so we prefer apples and bananas for fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes for vegetables. We try not to include unnecessary products, choosing only the essentials.
