Absamat Aitkulov, a resident of the Aksy district in the city of Kerben, previously, like many farmers, was engaged in selling fresh plums harvested from his own garden.
Although this year's harvest turned out to be modest, he managed to organize processing and earn a decent amount of money.
In previous years, Aitkulov dried and sold up to 10 tons of plums, but this season he gathered only about a ton, which he also decided to dry.
“Previously, we dried 5–6, and sometimes up to 10 tons of plums, selling them at a price of 100–120 soms. I was satisfied. This year, I developed a project and was able to purchase quality equipment. We carefully wash the plums, dry them, and use vacuum packaging. Now the product that used to cost about 100 soms is being sold for 500 soms. Even 200 grams were sold for 100 soms. I took the products to various fairs and sold everything out. Farmers need to engage in processing and sales themselves. We work hard, but others reap the profits. Our raw products go to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, where they are processed and brands are created. I believe the day will come when we can also enter the global market with our processed products,” he noted.
He slices the plums and dries them, producing a product that is perfect for children's cereals. He also makes two types of cookies from a mixture of dried fruits.

“I decided to make apple chips from 300 kilograms of apples, and they sold out wonderfully at a three-day fair in Bishkek. This is a natural and healthy product. We also chopped the apples finely and added them to tea, which attracted new customers. I started drying all the fruits and vegetables I have in my garden, including tomatoes and eggplants. Even barberries and rose hips that were left unharvested in the forest, I dry and sell at fairs. The main thing is to keep moving forward, and the rest depends on fate,” Aitkulov added.
