The Minister of Construction explained measures to curb housing prices in the Jogorku Kenesh

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, Nurdin Oruntaev, stated that Kyrgyzstan still depends on the import of building materials, with Russia previously being the main supplier of metal.

According to him, metal and conductors remain the most expensive materials in construction, which led the government to decide to allow the import of building materials from China.

Oruntaev noted that in the past, Russian suppliers often manipulated prices, causing a sharp increase in the prices of rolled metal. However, in 2025, the price per kilogram of metal remained stable at 56–58 soms throughout the year.

“Last year, we were able to keep prices within 56–58 soms, which positively affected the cost of housing,” the minister emphasized.

Additionally, the minister added that several cement plants operate in Kyrgyzstan, located both in the south and the north of the country. To control housing prices, the government also purchased cement from local producers, which had a positive effect.

Overall, according to Oruntaev, the state actively supports local producers while also attracting external suppliers to reduce prices in the construction sector and stabilize the market situation.
