At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Industry, Transport, and Energy, Energy Minister Talaibek Ibraev announced that Kyrgyzstan has an ambitious plan to eliminate the electricity deficit by 2028.

According to him, the country is currently facing a shortage of about 4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

Ibraev noted that this year, new generating capacities of approximately 400–500 megawatts will be put into operation in the country.

The electricity deficit is currently being compensated through imports. The minister emphasized that with a daily electricity consumption of 55 million kilowatt-hours, nearly half of this figure is purchased from abroad.

It is also worth noting that according to forecasts, by April 1, the water level in the Toktogul Reservoir will reach 6.8 billion cubic meters.
