- On January 24, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev, who also serves as the acting Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, visited several key facilities in the Issyk-Ata district, including the Eastern Big Chui Canal, the irrigation canal R-24, and the Tuz Basin. This information was provided by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

During his visit, the minister reviewed the condition of the canals and the ongoing repair works.

Additional information:

The Eastern Big Chui Canal, which is 97 km long, irrigates 41.5 thousand hectares of agricultural land and was put into operation in 1957.

The R-24 canal, located within the rural municipality of Jaiylma, is a partially concreted structure: 1,350 meters of its total length is concreted, while 5,075 meters consist of earthen sections. This canal supplies water to 1,100 hectares of irrigated land. In 2025, the concreting of 1,480 meters of the canal, covering an area of 5,415 m², was completed, and in 2026, the concreting of another 1,280 meters, covering an area of 4,655 m², is planned.

The Tuz Basin, which was built to regulate water resources, began operations in 1987. After major repairs, its capacity is 1.8 million m³.

From this basin, water is additionally supplied to the following irrigated lands:

Jaiylmin rural area, village of Tuz — 1,300 ha of irrigated land

City of Kant, village of Luxembourg — 1,100 ha of irrigated land

This water supply aims to increase crop yields and support the agricultural activities of local farmers.
