The Botanical Garden is one of the largest green spaces in the capital and is an important historical and scientific site, as well as a key element of the city's ecology. In recent years, sharp debates have erupted regarding its condition. In 2025, a similar video appeared online, where users showed how the garden's space had changed compared to previous years, which also provoked active discussions among the public.
At that time, the city hall reported that the Botanical Garden is not under their jurisdiction but is managed by the National Academy of Sciences. The authorities also confirmed that the garden has the status of a specially protected natural area in accordance with current laws.
Representatives of the Botanical Garden administration previously explained the changes in its condition as a necessity for major repairs of the irrigation system and preparations for upcoming reconstruction. They noted that in some areas, vegetation suffers from aggressive plant species, which they plan to replace with decorative plantings in the future.
This week, it was also announced that construction of football fields and other infrastructure within the garden is beginning, including recreation areas, running and cycling paths, as well as playgrounds. The administration emphasizes that the areas designated for construction previously had no greenery and did not support tree growth, and that the income from the sports facilities will be directed towards the maintenance and development of the Botanical Garden.
Some members of parliament expressed concern about the fate of the Botanical Garden, calling for the preservation of its green zone and preventing its use for sports or commercial purposes, emphasizing its significance as the "lungs" of Bishkek.
This situation remains one of the main environmental topics in the capital, actively discussed by both residents and public figures.
