According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China, in 2025, Kyrgyzstan significantly reduced its purchases of walnuts from the Celestial Empire. The import of this product decreased by 32% compared to the previous year.
In 2024, the physical volume of supplies reached 42,200 tons, but in 2025 it dropped to 28,700 tons. There is also a negative trend in monetary terms: the total cost of the purchased nuts amounted to $99.9 million, which is 21.2% lower than last year.
Experts emphasize that the decrease in value was less significant compared to the reduction in volumes, which is related to changes in the price situation in the market. During the reporting period, the average prices for walnuts from China were as follows:
Walnuts in shell: from $1.5 to $2 per kilogram. Shelled kernels: from $3.9 to $5 per kilogram.
Analysts associate this trend with a possible saturation of the domestic market, an increase in local production in Kyrgyzstan, or changes in trade flows in the region. Nevertheless, China continues to be the main supplier of this product, despite the noticeable decline in import activity in the past year.
