In 2025, the construction of eight small hydropower plants was completed in Kyrgyzstan, with a total capacity of 44.59 MW. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Energy.

One of the newly commissioned plants is the "Kara-Kul" HPP, owned by JSC "Chakan HPP". The official opening of this facility took place on October 27, 2025, with the presence of President Sadyr Japarov at the event.

In addition, JSC "Chakan HPP" is actively working on the construction of three more hydropower plants: Orto-Tokoy, Papanskaya, and Yldyky Tar. Although small hydropower plants cannot fully replace large energy facilities, they play an important role in enhancing the country's energy security and reducing electricity shortages.

In 2025, the small hydropower plants in the country produced over 400 million kWh of electricity, of which more than 41 million kWh came from the new plants launched last year.

“JSC 'Chakan HPP' will continue to develop small hydropower, build new facilities, and enhance the reliability of existing capacities,” the official statement noted.
