On March 17, during an iftar event with representatives of the press in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed the opinion that Israel is pursuing a policy that puts the region at risk of catastrophe. According to him, Israel leads a structure that considers itself above others and gradually drags the countries of the region into conflict.

“We all know that the military actions that began in Gaza, then affected Yemen and Lebanon, as well as the recent incidents with Iran, are based not only on security considerations,” Erdoğan noted.

Speaking about the significance of the media in modern society, he emphasized that Turkey, possessing significant influence in the world, must have active and influential media outlets. “Today we can be proud that we have a freer and more diverse media environment,” he added.

The president also expressed condolences to his colleagues in the profession who have passed away. “I pray for mercy for our esteemed journalists whose articles and professional positions have made a significant contribution to the development of the press. In particular, I remember Murat Keklikçi, a senior correspondent for the Sabah newspaper, who passed away this morning, as well as all journalists who gave their lives while performing difficult tasks in conflict zones, especially in Palestine. With deep respect, I remember the 275 journalists who died trying to convey the truth about the genocide being committed by Israel in Gaza,” Erdoğan said, expressing gratitude to all participants of the event and congratulating the Communications Directorate on organizing the meeting.
