In an interview with the New York Post published on January 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the use of a new secret weapon by American military forces during the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela. He stated that this device, called "The Discombobulator," played a key role in the successful capture.
According to Trump, the "Discombobulator" was effective in disabling military equipment produced in China and Russia. He also mentioned that during this operation, some of Maduro's guards began experiencing unusual symptoms, such as nosebleeds and vomiting.
CNN: Device causing "Havana syndrome" symptoms was acquired a year ago
These statements by Trump came amid reports from CNN, which stated that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security acquired a device capable of inducing "Havana syndrome" symptoms about a year ago.
The symptoms of this syndrome became known in 2016 when employees of the U.S. embassy in Havana began reporting strange sensations, including noises, ear pain, and dizziness. One theory suggests that "Havana syndrome" may be caused by microwave radiation.
According to eyewitness accounts, during the operation to capture Maduro, a wave of powerful sound was observed, which, according to them, caused some to feel as if their heads were "exploding from the inside." According to Venezuelan sources, 83 people were killed during the operation.
Trump did not disclose any additional details about the "Discombobulator" in his interview.
Progress of the U.S. military operation in Venezuela
Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured by U.S. Delta Force on January 3 as part of an operation dubbed "Absolute Resolve." They were first taken to a U.S. Navy base in Guantanamo and then to New York, where their first court hearing took place on January 5.
U.S. authorities have formally charged Maduro with "narcoterrorism," illegal possession of weapons, and trafficking in diplomatic passports. In particular, he is accused of leading the criminal organization Cartel de los Soles, which has previously been designated as a terrorist group in the U.S. Maduro denies all charges, claiming they are a cover for the seizure of his country's oil resources.
